Born in Rochester, New York to immigrant parents from Andhra Pradesh, India, Vindhya grew up in a tight-knit household rich with Indian and American musical influences, cultural vibrancy, and intellectual pursuit. She started singing in school choirs, including in the Maryland All-State Choirs, gathering experience and picking up solo opportunities in Western classical operas, American jazz pieces, Gospel songs, and so much more. From school she developed a keen interest in musical theatre. She performed lead roles at the university levels (e.g., Mimi from Rent at the University of Pennsylvania Law School) and started building an online presence. In 2019, Vindhya produced and co-wrote a single, "Chal Mere Bhaiya," which was released by Zee Music Company, one of India's largest record labels.
She pursued a law degree at the University of Pennsylvania Law School because she wanted to expand herself intellectually and believes - always - that the law carries incredible power to uplift, rectify injustices, and create lasting social change. She practices law currently in Washington, D.C., working in foreign affairs. Vindhya's music is a brilliant amalgamation of her Indian and American musical influences and proof that one doesn't need to fit into a conventional box.
In her own words: "If my music helps even one person get through something tough in their life, brings a smile to their face, helps them realize they are not alone, or makes them reflect about life and the world we live in, then I've done the job. That's the power I want my music to have."
